英語の「rickshaw」という借用語の事例研究

要旨
This paper traces the history of the Japanese loanword rickshaw in English. First, earlier Japanese words for vehicles appearing in English sources (norimon, kago, kuruma) are examined. The origin and development of the jinrikisha, and the processes which formed the English word rickshaw and later hybrid compounds, are then explored in detail. Finally, current spelling and pronunciation are considered, and recent citations are presented and discussed.
