要旨
This paper outlines an activity designed to improve the students' connection with English through the use of movie scenes. To maintain the students' focus on the target language, no handouts are used. All information is displayed on a class projection screen. This activity consists mainly of three stages: Preview; Listening; and, Production. In the preview stage, the students watch a short (10 lines or less) movie scene with Japanese subtitles. In the listening stage, the audio of the scene is played five times. At the same time, five scripts of the same scene, each with different words missing, are displayed on the screen. The scripts contain Japanese translations. The first letters of the missing words are also given as hints for the students. There are one or more blanks in each line and the number of missing words increases in each successive script. During the production stage, the students are shown the same scripts without the audio and are required to reproduce the language from the scene as a class.
