要旨

This paper first discusses how language biographies serve as a methodology for exploring the agency and contextual constraints in the development of the language and cultural repertoires and identities of plurilingual individuals. It also emphasizes that such constraints arise not from a single context, but from multiple factors, many of which relate to sense of belonging. Next, it analyzes the language biography of a Peruvian student attending a university in Japan. To deepen the understanding of her biography, the paper reviews previous related research. Specifically, the paper focuses on bilingualism in Latin American families living in Japan, school choices for their children, the relationship between bilingualism and university enrollment, and the changes in the Japanese-Peruvian community in Peru since the 1990s.
