要旨
The present study investigates the adoption and modification in meanings of Chinese words in Rongo: a record of Confucius and his disciples' acts and sayings. It was introduced to Japan as one of the first Chinese classics in the beginning of the 5th century. Confucian have long been admired it as scriptures. Philosophy as well as Chinese words and characters in Rongo were not merely adopted in Japan but also affected philosophy and language in Japanese. The present study focuses on the two character Chinese words in Rongo. First, two character words were arranged in the Japanese syllabary order. Second, the usages of them in modern Japanese were explained. Third, the characteristics of those words that do not appear in modern Japanese were argued. Finally, differences between meanings of them in Rongo and those in modern Japanese were discussed.
