英語'close''shut'日本語「シメル」「トジル」の意味分析

要旨

英語の他動詞closeとshut、日本語の他動詞シメルとトジルの意味を分析した。それぞれの基本的意味と派生的意味を記述し、図示した。Closeは他動詞openのほぼ完全な対義語であること、shutの用法がより狭いものであること、シメルにはcloseとかなり異なる派生的意味があり、日本語話者は漢字を利用してそれらを区別していること、トジルには他の三つの動詞と異なる派生的意味があることがわかった。 The　meanings　of　the　English　transitive　verbs　close　and　shut　and　the　Japanese　transitive　verbs simeru　and　toziru　are　analyzed.　The　basic　and　derived　meanings　of　each　are　given　and　the　relationships among　them schematized.　It　is　once　again　demonstrated　that　words　which　have　similar basic　meanings　may　differ　widely　in　their　derived　meanings.
