要旨
This paper reports on some preliminary efforts to support literacy education in the Khaling language in Nepal, a linguistically diverse nation with a low rate of literacy. The activities reported on are a survey of attitudes towards Khaling among its native speakers, the preparation of textbooks to teach reading, and the training of local assistants to support literacy education. It is also stressed that the help of linguists as well as educators is required to address the problems posed by literacy education in Nepal.
