要旨
In June 2002, during the World Cup Football Tournaments, we have seen several times on TV and newspapers the 'W 杯' and 'FIFA'. This paper discusses the Japanese way of adoption of foreign civilization, through foreign words and letters, especially focusing on words written in Latin alphabet rather than Kana or Chinese characters. In a questionnaire I asked my students to invent a title for a new TV programme and the result proved that 17 percent of the TV titles were written in English.
