要旨
The visual language that appears in a city is called a linguistic landscape, and includes billboards, warning signs, road signs, etc. In recent decades, it has become a hot topic of research in related disciplines. In addition, with the development of globalization, speakers of different languages move around the world and congregate. Especially in a cosmopolitan city such as Shanghai, thousands of foreigners converge every year, for a short visit, for work, for long-term residence, for study, or to live. As a result, the use of local languages has become multilingual, which is also reflected in the linguistic landscapes. As part of urban landscapes, there are some regulations or policies at the government level for the setting of linguistic landscapes. Through field research of the multilingual landscapes in some areas of Shanghai, this study finds that, except for most official multilingual landscapes, there are large differences between the multilingual landscape settings and government policies in communities; existing analytical frameworks for multilingual landscapes are not fully applicable to those using Chinese characters or kanji, and Japanese has more language power in multilingual landscapes.
