要旨

This paper has focused on expressing intention so-called modality with the purpose of clarifying by conducting through analysis with Korean (contrastive analysis) on forms and conditions of the characteristics of Japanese conditional expressions which have various forms, and the way of talking of a speaker. A conditional sentence can be divided into NOBETATE(statement) modality of [if an antecedent clause is valid, the following clause is realized] and execution modality of [if an antecedent clause is valid, realize the following clause]. Japanese [ba·to·tara] is appeared in the sentence of NOBETATE(statement) modality and corresponds to Korean forms [-myeon]·[-damyeon]. These forms have a different spoken intention of antecedent and following clauses. [ba] is logical and inevitable and mainly represents an invariant condition. [tara], even for propositional content domain, is mostly appeared in one-off cause and effect sentence by specific and individual characteristics. Since [to] is a form connoting time-based character, it has a strong tendency to present nonhypothetical conditional expressions with rational and experiential and warning characters. In case of Korean forms such as [-myeon] and [-damyeon] in accord with Japanese forms, a supposition is a necessary form, thereby corresponding to [ba·to·tara] which represents hypothetical conditional expression. [-myeon], on the other hand, is neutral to the invariant condition of conjunction and is different from Japanese in terms of not involving in propositional content.
