要旨
A prominent Japanese economist offers an interpretation of the factors unique to Japan's history and culture that are responsible for its current economic success. Among the points analyzed are Japan's dualistic social structure (which corresponds to the division between large enterprise and medium to small enterprise), the relationship between government and big business, the poor reception of liberalism and individualism, and the strength of Japanese nationalism. Morishima emphasizes the importance of the role played by ethical doctrines in the creation of Japanese capitalism, especially the Confucian tradition of complete loyalty to the firm and to the state.
