論 説This research positions inquiry as a construct that guides the field toward a comprehensive understanding of the richness, flexibility, and constraints of human information-seeking behavior.In a separate line of research, Senay and Katz.(2010) demonstrated that Introspective Self-Talk can elicit reasons for intrinsically motivated behavior, leading to goal-directed action.Their experiments showed that a question format (e. g., ʠWill I…ʡ ) resulted in higher task performance and increased exercise intentions compared to a declarative format (e. g., ʠI will…ʡ ).This indicates that interrogative self-talk not only enhances goal-directed behavior but also provides a framework for understanding the significance of therapists encouraging self-talk in clients, viewing the process as one where cognition translates into action.Collectively, these findings highlight that questions serve as a critical element in psychological research, linking human cognition, motivation, and action, whether through active information-seeking in the external world or introspective self-talk aimed at self-regulation.What are we asking ourselves inʠAsking,ʡthe fifth step of Focusing? (TAKASAWA et al.)This approach allowed the data to be interpreted as a percentage since it represented a count of words of a specific type, with an average value calculated.Consequently, the mean values underwent arcsine transformation.Additionally, data were analyzed using correspondence analysis through text mining with KH coder (3.Beta.07eversion; Higuchi, 2016) to explore the characteristics of each question.In this study, to honor the experiences of participants in the Focusing condition, all words, except those deemed unknown by KH coder, were included in the analyses whenever possible.Japanese notational variants were grouped as a single word for collective analysis.To protect personal information, proper nouns (e. g., names of individuals) were anonymized as A, B, and C.
