要旨
The purpose of this research was to investigate whether the right hemisphere is involved in semantic processing. Picture-word matching was used to test the hypothesis that the right hemisphere (RH) would process the meaning of Kanji (ideographic characters) words better than the left hemisphere (LH), but the opposite pattern would hold for Kana (syllabic characters) words, in right-handed Japanese people. Pictures and words were presented briefly (150 - 500ms) with the pictures preceding the words by 1000ms. Words were presented either in the right-visual field to access the LH or the left visual field to access the RH.
