要旨
This paper explores a way of uncovering a mechanism of quantification in Japanese under the generalized quantifier approach. We assume that quantification in Japanese is based on a relation between two predicates. It is argued that from this assumption various syntactic characteristics in Japanese (bare noun phrases, some nature of left-dislocation, a parallelism between wh-words and quantificational words, etc.) are derived. This assumption also predicts that the NP-quantifier universal claimed by Barwise and Cooper 1981 should be rejected.
