English word-final /ks/ are generally borrowed as / k.ku.su/ in Japanese (e.g., "max"/mak.ku.su/), while / sk/ are borrowed as /su.ku/ ("mask"/ma.su.ku/).In order to examine whether this positional asymmetry in gemination is related to Japanese listeners perception, we conducted three perceptual experiments.Auditory stimuli were words with word-final /k/ ([maek]) in Experiment 1, /s/ ([maes]) in Experiment 2, and /ks/ or /sk / ([maeks], [maesk]) in Experiment 3.
