Case-checking and Minimal Link Condition*

I will argue in this paper that Case features need not be checked until LF (cf. Chomsky 1992). I will do so by giving evidence for LF movement in Japanese that is exclusively motivated by Case. As we explore the evidence for this movement, we will see that similar facts in English, unnoticed until now, provide evidence for movement of the embedded subject
