Introduction

要旨

Abstract This chapter introduces and briefly summarizes the rest of the chapters in this work. Chapters 2 and 3 illustrate the phonological systems, genealogical backgrounds, typological characteristics, and historical backgrounds upon which native scripts and writing were developed in Korean and Japanese. Chapters 3–12 compare morphosyntactic similarities and differences between the two languages and refer to relevant issues. The topics in these chapters include case and postpositions (particles), topic and focus, basic word order and scrambling, passive and causative constructions, relative clauses, nominalizers, sentence negation, tense and aspect, and honorifics.
