要旨
This dissertation explores continuity between grammar and lexis in the case of transitive and intransitive verbs, voices, and the verbs "naru" (to become) and "suru" (to do) in Japanese and Kyrgyz. Both language, as agglutinative language, share similarities in terms of the relation of transitive-intransitive paired verbs and derived verbs with voice suffixes. For instance, in both languages, intransitive verbs like "suwaru" (to sit), "warau" (to laugh), and "iku" (to go) have no transitive-paired verbs, but they can become transitive by attaching a causative suffix.Furthermore, while both language have transitive verbs without their intransitive counterpart, such as "kaku" (to write), "nomu" (to drink), "motsu" (to hold) their passivized verbs can function as correspondent intransitive verbs. However, Kyrgyz has no lexical transitive-intransitive paired verbs, only using the strategy of the derivation with voice suffixes. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the relationship between the following items: (i) Intransitive verbs and passive or reflexive verbs; (ii) Transitive verbs and causative verbs; (iii) Transitive /intransitive verbs and "naru" (to become) / "suru" (to do); Lexicalization and semantic particularization have been already investigated in the previous research, including the lexicalization of compounds (Kageyama 1993, Ooishi 1988, Kubozono 1995) and adjective-forming affixes (Brinton and Traugott 2009, Langacker 2011).The phenomenon can be observed in derivative verbs with causative, passive and reflexive suffixes of Japanese and Kyrgyz. With regard to "naru"/ "suru" opposition, similar features can be observed between the Japanese verb "naru" and the Kyrgyz verb "bol-"."Naru" (to become) is a lexical verb, which expresses the change of state or action as well as the result of the change, by joining to nouns, adjectives, and verbs. The Kyrgyz verb "bol-" (an equivalent for "naru") is also a lexical verb that has various meanings: to be, to exist; to become; to happen; to come (seasons/time); to be able to; to arise; to take place; The Kyrgyz verb "bol-" (to become) also attaches to nouns, adjectives, or verbs and functions as a light verb or a subsidiary one.Due to their similarities I perform a contrastive analysis of these two verbs. The dissertation consists of seven chapters. The first chapter describes research topics and purposes, along with the methodology of data collection, methodology, and a brief description of v Kyrgyz. The second chapter reviews previous literature on Japanese transitive and intransitive verbs and voice, including the transitive vs. intransitive opposition, passive and causative voices. The third chapter gives a survey of previous research on Kyrgyz intransitive and transitive verbs and voice system. In the fourth chapter, after explaining about lexicalization, including its definition and mechanism, I discuss the lexicalization of Japanese intransitive and transitive verbs
