要旨

Numeral classifier is usually used in the numeral phrase. In Japanese, the numeral classifier is known as two terms namely josushi and ryubetsushi . In this paper, the discussion is about the use of numeral classifier which is used to count the animals in Japanese. The discussion is focused on description about the forms and functions. The numeral classifier use in counting the number of inanimate animals is different with the animate animal. In Japanese, there are four numeral classifiers in counting the animate animals namely hiki , wa , tou , and tei .
